Forico is on a reconciliation journey and is proud to have produced a Reconciliation Action Plan. We are putting our words into action by growing our connection with the Aboriginal communities of lutruwita / Tasmania.

If you are a young Aboriginal student heading into year 11 or 12 and have an interest in exploring sustainable forestry and land management, the Forico cadetship could be perfect for you. We tailor activities to cater to your interests, whether that is growing your own connection to Country, or learning more about all aspects of forestry – or both.

Forico offers a range of cadetships to all students regardless of background, and welcomes enquiries from all members of the student community.

What our forestry cadets get up to...

Branching out in the forest and on Country in lutruwita / Tasmania

Rosanne Champion started as a Cadet Forester with Forico and now works for us as an Assistant Planning Forester.

During her time as a cadet, Rosanne helped with ecological grassland burning, tried out a harvesting machine, flew over plantations in a helicopter, and assisted with the planting of seedlings, tree measuring, and plantation surveys.

“I was able to get a deeper, more hands-on view of the world of work, and what working in forestry is like, all while completing my Year 12 education. There are so
many career opportunities in the forestry sector, it is just about getting a foot in the door.”

Who can be a cadet?

Year 11 or 12, studying Certificate II in Forest Growing & Management

As a Forico cadet, you’ll be in Year 11 or 12 and studying a Certificate II in Forest Growing & Management.

You will spend one day per week in paid employment with Forico, based at our Ridgley office and gaining work experience in our forests: learning about the sustainable management of plantations, and how we manage the natural environment in and around them for our native plants and animals.

You will need a driver’s license or means of transport to our Ridgley office.

We would love to hear from you!

Call or text us on 0448 428 563 or send your resume to forico@forico.com.au with the subject line 'Forico Cadet'.
